Hello. I noticed that you are a participant on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronic music. I have come across this article which may be a candidate for this project. I did not see how to add an article to the project, however. Can you take a look at it and possibly adopt this article to love? Thanks! James084 14:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for your kind words!

Godot

[edit]

Hi! I was just looking at a slightly old edit you made on the Beckett page, removing the pronounciation of "Godot". I think you took it that the anon-user was trying to imply something about Godot and a relationship to the Christian God, but I should point out that, according Beckett, it was indeed pronounced with an emphasis on the first syllable, as in "GAWD-oh" (there's a weblink somewhere on the actual Godot explaining this). The "Guh-doh" pronounciation is apparently (also according to SB) a (North) American invention. Anyway, I don't think it's actually necessasry to place that information in the Beckett article anyway, as it's discussed at some length in the article to which the name pertains. Sorry, don't mean to be nitpicky, but I thought you'd be interested to hear that little piece of trivia.

Cheers!

Sure, point taken, I just think that if pronunciations are desired then phonetics should be used... not a transliteration, especially so when it puts GOD in capital letters in this context, where people have questioned if Godot represents God. Martin Hinks 16:56, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No need to apologize for not helping—everyone has their own schedules, of course, and we can never predict illness, can we? (Well, usually not, anyhow.) I hope you're feeling better now and that you have a pleasant holiday.

I think I can probably handle the task of creating a "Works" section on my own this evening, but thanks sincerely for the offer of help; even if it didn't materialize due to personal circumstances, it is most appreciated. Take care. —Saposcat 10:54, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks a lot for the awards; I appreciate it. And welcome back. —Saposcat 06:27, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I believe you uploaded the image Image:The KLF.jpg and tagged it as a promotional picture? We've got The KLF article up as a Featured article candidate and the copyright status of that image might be a sticking point. If you can tell me any more about the origin of that image and why you believe it to be promotional/fair use please drop me a line on my talk page or at Image talk:The KLF.jpg. Thanks! --kingboyk 16:53, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. We got in touch with the owner of the image and he isn't happy for it to be used. Shame but c'est la vie. We've gone with the "Why sheep?" picture instead. I'm nominating the image you uploaded for deletion - don't worry about it, and you don't have to do anything (unless you object) but the guidelines say I have to let you know by placing. --kingboyk 09:58, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I posted my views on Talk:The_KLF/The_KLF.jpg about the "why sheep" image - apologies again for all the hassle with the image! Martin Hinks 10:07, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries mate, it's not your fault. It's just that when an article comes up for Featured Article status these things get more closely scrutinised. No harm done! Thanks for supporting our nomination by the way. --kingboyk 10:20, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Geez, I have such a bad memory - I'd forgotten you uploaded the original picture. Can't remember fully what it looked like either - Jimmy staring off into the distance with Bill stood beside/behind him? Was the car in the pic? Hmm... --kingboyk 15:24, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya again. As you've probably noticed, I was having a shifty through your contributions and have made some edits to articles about Fluke. You're doing a great job but there's a couple of consistent issues you need to be aware of:

  • Style. Albums should be in italics, "Song Titles" in quotes. That's the Wikipedia way.
  • Please don't redlink every song Fluke ever recorded. I think you'd probably agree that The KLF are a bit more notable than Fluke, but that we don't have articles for every song the band ever recorded (see e.g. The White Room). The reason is that unless a song is very notable, and lots of interesting things have been written about it, it's never going to result in an article that is any better than a stub. Write about individual songs in the album article, unless they are very notable and can easily fill an article (such as "Last Train to Trancentral").

Hope that helps! --kingboyk 12:12, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, thanks for the feedback - at the time I redlinked every song in Puppy I was a little less familiar with Wikipedia - so thank you for delinking. I am planning to create pages for released singles to create a chronological record via the singles boxes, but not for every song! Thanks also for the style conventions - I'll have to go through and change all those. I'm just trying to send a message to the band at the moment requesting promotional photographs that we could use as (again) I am not 100% sure of the copyright of the image that is used at the moment, and with all the KLF fuss I thought I should sort that out now! Gonna try and get them to clarify the sources for the Peel sessions as well cos that is bugging me (spent like 4 hours tracking down known sources only to find inconsistencies - bloody BBC!) Thanks again for the feedback, I'll continue to improve the article and make this page the definitive Fluke source. Martin Hinks 12:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. The KLF may be more notable than Fluke is terms of historical posterity but they play a larger role in my record collection hehe! Martin Hinks 12:22, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd change "may" to are definitely, with the proviso that "notability" does not equal "quality". The KLF were, of course, not only commercially successful but masters at the art of media manipulation... :P Anyway, good work man, see you around! --kingboyk 12:35, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have very little by them sorry to say... But, to celebrate our interraction I'm now listening to "Groovy Feeling" (my only Fluke single, and it's a corker). --kingboyk 12:31, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, good stuff! I'm just redoing the style in the main article now - so much more fun than doing the work i'm *supposed* to be doing! Martin Hinks 12:32, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Please take a look at WP:KLF, see what you think... ?  :) --kingboyk 13:15, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Air Marshal S. Radhakrishnan

[edit]

Thanks very kindly for you attention. I suspected he was part of the Indian Air Force, but I thought it was very unclear.

My second objection, I think, remains fairly valid. Although he is the rough equvalent of a lt. general or rear admiral, the article still doesn't explain his particular signfigance.

Indeed - I added a significance tag to the article so hopefully someone can address that. Martin Hinks 17:07, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I notice you've made some very good contributions to the Gravity's Rainbow article, so you may be interested in a discussion over at the Against the Day article. I've added more sections to that article than are usual and there have been some complaints, so some of those sections may be deleted. If you have an interest, please take a look at it and at the discussion in the "Abstruse Words" section on the talk page, and if you have an opinion, I'd value it, whether you agree or disagree. [edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:RobOverseer.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image source problem with Image:Joe orton.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Joe orton.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — mholland (talk) 19:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:OverseerWreckage.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:OverseerWreckage.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, You've tagged "Phylogenetic footprinting" article as having an unsufficient intro info. Do you want to elaborate on what's missing so I can add info? —Preceding unsigned comment added by LubaV (talkcontribs) 04:11, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya - I can't see the edit where I tagged the page... I think the edit was this one. Regardless of that I do feel that the intro paragraph is insufficient for someone who has never heard of phylogenetic footprinting. This could be improved by specifying it as a sub-branch of genetics "In genetics, Phylogenetic footprinting is a technique" etc. Furthermore it would be good if all acronyms (TFBS for instance) were expanded when first encountered, rather than at a later occurrence. Thirdly, the list style "1.) and 2.)" doesn't read neatly, consider rephrasing this into a more cohesive prose style. Many thanks, Martin Hinks 06:33, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about this one too, but it is not enough to state that no free image of him "has been found" (where did you look, anyway?), per WP:NFCC#1 you also need to demontrate that no such image could ever be created, which is very rarely the case for living people. Fair use rationale for Image:UtahSaints.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:UtahSaints.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fluke Absurd The Remixes.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fluke Absurd The Remixes.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oto (Fluke album - cover art).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 10:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Leftfield.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Leftfield.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Replaceable fair use Image:Fluke1.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Fluke1.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 09:38, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of FTP server return codes. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of FTP server return codes. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Appalooso requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mtking (talk) 00:32, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
